Snapshot Saturday: Postcard #9 Alcatraz Island, San Francisco

It’s day 158 of our round-the-world trip and our third weekend in Santa Clara, California. Today’s postcard is from Alcatraz also known as “The Rock”, an island on San Francisco Bay that was once used as a fort and a prison (which once held the infamous Al Capone).

It is now a National Historic Landmark.

When not backpacking, she teaches her daughter sight words and belly dancing (even if she's not good at it). She's currently eating her way around some hippie town in Australia. She loves talking about herself in the third person.

  1. Locked up…I’m always fascinated with the history of this former prison since I saw Clint Eastwood’s “Escape from Alcatraz” hehe and of course “The Rock”

  2. Wow, you did the Alcatraz tour! I only tried the boat tour around the island. We never stepped foot on it.
Hope you can feature the Palace of fine arts next time. I miss SFO!

Another tip: visit Baker beach (nude beach!) haha
